The timing obviously wasn't ideal for a rumoured team change. Just as the stories broke about Kevin Koe blowing up his Brier-winning team, he and the current squad were about to get on a plane and head to Beijing, China for the World Curling Championships.
Not surprisingly, when contacted by the Calgary Herald, he was quite buttoned-up.
Koe wouldn’t discuss rumours when contacted by the Herald on Friday.
“As a response for our current team, our focus is on China. We are going over there to try and win a gold for Canada,” the Glencoe Club skip said.
“There are a lot of rumours out there. We’re just focusing on worlds and we’ll have a statement out after worlds.”Koe said that the stories of team changes at this time of the year are part of curling fabric and that he wasn't overly surprised to hear the stories coming out.
“You get use to it,” Koe said of the speculation. “When this part of the season comes along rumours are bound to happen.
“It hasn’t been a big deal for us. It’s part of the business. We’ve got too much to look forward to and too much at stake to really worry about it. We’re totally focussed on what we need to do to win in China.”
